West Course

Hardly Second Fiddle

Just a pitching wedge from Oak Hill’s famed East Course lies a second Donald Ross gem – the West Course – that remains virtually untouched since it was first designed in 1926. While you won’t find Allen’s Creek meandering through any holes on Oak Hill West, the rolling terrain, elevated greens, majestic oaks and forever fast greens, make it truly “championship” in its own right.

Oak Hill West is shorter and less difficult than Oak Hill East, but still carries the authenticity of Donald Ross greens and bunkers. It offers some excellent holes, including “Camelback,” the double-humped par-5 sixth hole to an elevated green, and “Twin Hills” a beautiful par 4 featuring hilly terrain and a ridge top green. In fact, you’ll find a number of ridges on the West Course, including in the middle of some of its greens.

Oak Hill West is a par 70 featuring two par 5s and 6,735 yards of golf from the back tees. The West has a course rating is 73.3 and a slope of 136.

This long double dogleg par-4 (men)/par-5 (women) is one of the most difficult holes on property. Grass hummocks guard both sides of the fairway and a long iron approach is required to reach the green in regulation. Beware of left hole locations as a large oak tree guards the left half of the green. The green slopes from back to front will yield few birdies and par is a good score.
